Steph Curry's 'night night' celebration almost backfires against Nets

After bringing the Golden State Warriors from a 22-point deficit to a 10-point lead with a minute to go, Steph Curry did his signature "night night" celebration Thursday. It almost turned into a night night-mare.

Curry's seventh three-pointer of the night gave the Warriors a 119-109 lead with 1:01 to go. He felt confident enough afterward to celebrate, indicating to the Nets and their fans that he'd put them to bed.

But bedtime wasn't simple. Cameron Johnson got a bucket, and after a Nic Claxton steal, he got fouled and completed a three-point play.

Thirty seconds later, Cam Thomas sank a Curry-esque 34-footer to make it a two-point game.

Curry finally managed to salt the game away with two free throws, and the Warriors came away with a 121-119 win over the Nets.

That was part of a 29-for-32 performance from the foul line for the Warriors. That improved free-throw shooting has been a cornerstone of Golden State's 10-2 record since Jimmy Butler joined the team Feb. 8. The Warriors went from one of the NBA's worst free-throw shooting teams to its best, shooting 85.6% on 24.3 attempts (fifth in the NBA). Butler went 10-for-10 from the line Thursday on his way to 25 points.

The Warriors needed it on a night where Brandin Podziemski left with an injury in the first minute of the game, while his replacement, Buddy Hield, missed all eight of his shots and all five three-pointers.

Brooklyn started the game on a 27-5 run, but the Warriors responded with a 40-point second quarter, punctuated by a ridiculous Curry buzzer-beater.

It's the second time on the Warriors' 4-1 road trip that Curry has made an improbable shot to end the first half and spark a massive Golden State comeback. Against the Orlando Magic on Feb. 27, Curry hit from behind the half-court line with his team trailing by 17 points. He went on to score 56 points and the Warriors won, 121-115.

But he didn't give the Magic the "night night," perhaps out of an abundance of caution. Golden State is still undefeated when Curry breaks out the "night night," but Thursday night was too close for comfort.
