Penguins acquire Maple Leafs defenseman in last-second trade

LAS VEGAS — The Pittsburgh Penguins slipped one more trade in just before the horn of the 2025 NHL trade deadline Friday.

The team made a deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs to acquire 26-year-old right-handed defenseman Conor Timmins and depth center Connor Dewar.

According to TSN’s Chris Johnston, the Penguins parted with a late-round pick.

Timmons has eight points (2-6-8) in 51 games this season. He’s a good-skating puck-mover who isn’t a heavy defender. In 51 games, he has 51 shots and is a +2.

Timmins' best season was in 2022-23, when he had 14 points (2-12-14) in 25 games.

Dewar is a high-intensity player who more than maximizes his skills. He was an average junior who made it to the NHL based on his competition level. He has just three assists in 31 games this season but also has 80 hits.

Last season, Dewar had 11 goals in 71 games split between Minnesota and Toronto.
