Eight third round matches are scheduled on day five at WTA Indian Wells with several star names set to take to the court in ‘tennis paradise’. As ever, we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for every match on the slate – including Iga Swiatek vs Dayana Yastremska – but who will book their spot in the fourth round?

WTA Indian Wells Day 5 Predictions

Marta Kostyuk vs Caroline Dolehide

Head-to-head: Kostyuk 1-0 Dolehide

Marta Kostyuk, last year’s semifinalist, got off to a strong start by comfortably defeating Robin Montgomery in the second round. Kostyuk hasn’t won consecutive matches since Doha and this is a great opportunity for her to go on a deep run and avoid losing crucial points. Caroline Dolehide took care of lucky loser, Eva Lys in straight sets, but this would be a much bigger test for the American. Dolehide has never advanced past the third round here, and I doubt she will this time.

Elina Svitolina vs Danielle Collins

Head-to-head: Collins 2-0 Svitolina

Elina Svitolina was involved in a tough second round battle against Ashlyn Krueger and did well to win the match. Svitolina had a match point in the second set but it was saved impressively by Krueger and then they both fought hard to gain control of the third set. It was not the best match from Svitolina but her fight and determination got her past the finish line. Danielle Collins also had to show a lot of fight as she won her second round match after losing the first set. Collins has lots of points to defend in the coming days and needs every single win she can. She has an excellent record against Svitolina, but these slow courts suit the Ukrainian’s game better. Svitolina can extract errors from Collins if she can defend effectively and manage her service games.

Prediction: Svitolina in 3

Mirra Andreeva vs Clara Tauson

Head-to-head: Andreeva 1-0 Tauson

This is the rematch of last month’s final in WTA 1000 Dubai where Mirra Andreeva got the better of Clara Tauson. The first set was crucial in that match as Tauson faded away in the second. Both players had a difficult second round match here but did well to win in straight sets. These are two of the most in-form players of 2025. Tauson would want instant vengeance, and these courts are slower than Dubai, reducing Andreeva’s effectiveness and benefiting Tauson. The pressure would also be more on the higher ranked Andreeva. I am giving a slight edge to Tauson.

Elena Rybakina vs Katie Boulter

Head-to-head: Rybakina 1-0 Boulter

Elena Rybakina was solid in her opening round match against Suzan Lamens, as she never let her guard down for the opponent to capitalise. She has another winnable match against Katie Boulter, who did well in her first match since the Australian Open. Boulter started slow but grew into the match and finished strong. However, her level is still not good enough to challenge a player like Rybakina. The 2023 Indian Wells champion should get enough chances to break Boulter’s serve and win this match in straight sets.

Prediction: Rybakina in 2
