Tiger Woods and the PGA Tour have both confirmed that the American will not be featuring at The Players Championship. The 49-year old was left out of the final field for the TPC event at the Sawgrass next week. This makes it the fourth time in a row he is missing The Players Championship, after previously withdrawing due to injury. Woods has not appeared in any official event since he missed the cut at The Open last July.

Although the golfer’s has been limited in recent seasons, he was widely expected to make his return at last month’s Genesis Invitational. However, he withdrew from the event after the death of his mother, Kultida, a week earlier. Woods also withdrew from the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

Woods showed glimpses of his vintage ball-striking in the tech-infused indoor league, TGL as he made his final appearance of the inaugural season on Tuesday. The match ended in defeat for his team, Jupiter Links, as they were soundly beaten 9-1 by Atlanta Drive Golf Club.

The highly anticipated Players Championship will take place at the PGA’s base in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida next week. This is the final year in which Woods is exempt for the competition after his win at the 2019 Masters.

What TPC Withdrawal Means For Tiger Wood’s Future

Speaking at the end of the match, the former world number one told reporters that he wasn’t ready to compete anytime soon due to his mother’s passing last month and his commitments to the PGA Tour.

This is the third time I’ve touched a club since my mom passed, so I haven’t really gotten into it,” Woods said. “My heart is really not into practicing right now. I’ve had so many other things to do with the Tour and trying to do other things. Once I start feeling a little bit better and start getting into it, I’ll start looking at the schedule.”

Amidst his withdrawal and subsequent statement, there has been increasing speculation about the future of the legendary golfer. Woods left fans disappointed when he withdrew from the Genesis Invitational and the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Many are now wondering if the American will be available to compete at the Masters Tournament.

The uncertainty over Woods’ Future stems from his unexpected withdrawal from the Arnold Palmer Invitational, an event he has won a record eight times. His absence raised many speculation and questions about what the future holds for the 49-year-old.

The concerns about his future have been further compounded by the announcement that the former world number one will not be competing at The Players Championship next week. Regardless of Woods’ plans, fans will continue to watch closely to see what his next move will be.
