Former Pro Bowl CB agrees to huge contract with Colts

The Indianapolis Colts have agreed to a deal with one of the top players available in free agency.

Veteran cornerback Charvarius Ward on Monday agreed to a three-year contract with the Colts that is worth up to $60M, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Ward will receive $35M guaranteed.

Ward spent the last three seasons with the San Francisco 49ers. His best season came in 2023, when he had 72 total tackles, 23 passes defended, five interceptions, a touchdown and a forced fumble. Ward got his lone Pro Bowl nod that season.

Prior to signing with the 49ers in 2022, Ward played for the Kanas City Chiefs for four seasons. The former undrafted free agent became a full-time starter by his second season in Kansas City and helped the team win a Super Bowl during the 2019 season.

Ward revealed last October that his 1-year-old daughter had passed away. He said he dealt with PTSD from the tragedy and indicated that he might benefit from a fresh start away from San Francisco.

The 28-year-old Ward will now join a Colts defense that allowed 229.4 passing yards per game last season, which ranked 26th in the NFL. Ward should help address that problem in Indy.
