Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo got his Spartans in shape this season, and his efforts were so good in East Lansing that he was named the 2024-25 Big Ten Coach of the Year.
That's not the first time he's won the award, but it has been quite some time since he's been honored in such a way. He's now been named Big Ten Coach of the Year four times, but this is his first time winning the award since 2012.
That an incredible state for a coach as good as Izzo. That's well over 10 years since he last won the award. Notably, he also became the oldest coach to win Big Ten Coach of the Year, and that information drew a chuckle from him when it was brought up by a reporter.
“Damn. Is that a compliment or an insult?” Izzo said (h/t On3).
Izzo just turned 70, but he has his Spartans humming just like he did when he was in his "prime." They finished the season 26-5 and won the Big Ten outright.

Interestingly enough, the Spartans became the first team in more than 30 years to win the Big Ten regular-season title without having a player on the All-Big Ten First Team or Second Team — which points to Izzo's brilliance.
