Cavaliers' depth extends winning streak to new franchise record

Now in mid March, some teams are battling it out for playoff position. Other teams like the Cleveland Cavaliers are simply gearing up for a long postseason run through the spring and summer.

On Friday night, the Cavaliers won again. Their latest victory, No. 56 on the season, set a new franchise record. Cleveland now has a new franchise-best 16-game win streak after a 133-124 defeat of the West's No. 4 seed Memphis Grizzlies

And what makes Cleveland's win streak so impressive is the same thing that makes them a legitimate title contender. This Cavaliers team gets everyone involved.

Donovan Mitchell is considered the superstar of the team, but the Cavaliers have shown they can win without him all season. That's even been evident recently as well, as Mitchell has missed two games with a groin injury. He also only scored 15 in his last appearance on March 9.

Again, Cleveland knows it can rely on anyone to step up when needed. Evan Mobley has now surpassed 20 points in back-to-back games, posting 22 against the Grizzlies and 21 in a win over Brooklyn. Mobley recorded a double-double by adding 11 rebounds in Memphis.

Darius Garland was just behind Mobley on Friday night, scoring 20 points. But Garland led the way on Tuesday against the Nets with 30.

De'Andre Hunter, Jarrett Allen, Sam Merrill, Ty Jerome and Javonte Green all reached double digits in scoring in the Cavaliers' latest statement win. Allen has reached double digits in four consecutive games, highlighted with a high of 23.

These Cavaliers might be different than LeBron James' Cavaliers that made four straight NBA Finals appearances and captured the franchise's only championship in 2016. However, these Cavaliers aren't trying to win any beauty contest or compete with all-time teams of the past. Instead, they are just trying to win here in the present day, and they are doing a great job of doing just that.

Cleveland may not have the star power of some other teams, certainly not to the level of the defending champion Boston Celtics, granted it did send three players to the All-Star Game. But wire to wire, the Cavaliers have been playing as well as anyone all season long and continue to prove they can compete with literally anyone.

These Cavaliers could be poised to make a run and make the 2024-25 season another special one for Cleveland fans to remember forever.
