Christopher Bell's run at history came up short in Sunday's Pennzoil 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Bell entered the fifth race of the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series season having won the last three Cup Series races, but his bid for a four-peat was denied in Sin City.
A throttle body issue found after Bell's qualifying run forced the No. 20 team to drop to the rear for the start of Sunday's race. However, a Lap 34 caution for Chase Briscoe's loose wheel flipped the front of the field, allowing Bell to finish Stage 1 in 10th.
Stage 2 saw Bell assert himself as a contender and climb as high as second in the running order, but a loose wheel derailed his day. A heads-up call from crew chief Adam Stevens prevented Bell from losing a wheel on the racing surface, but Bell was never able to get back in the mix after the pit road mishap.
Bell finished Stage 2 in 27th and the race in 12th.
Bell's defeat means Jimmie Johnson is still the latest driver to win four consecutive Cup Series races. The seven-time champion accomplished the feat in 2007. Meanwhile, Bill Elliott remains the last driver to win four of the first five races in a given season, having done so in 1992.
