Three prospects who shined in Rockies-White Sox Spring Breakout game

GLENDALE, Ariz. — A pair of franchises that had little to celebrate last year are ready to turn the page on a new season, and the prospects that took the field for both the Colorado Rockies and Chicago White Sox may play a big role in their respective franchises' future.

While Colorado won the Spring Breakout matchup, 3-1, on Sunday, let's take a look at prospects from both franchises who stood out in the game.

Adael Amador, No. 7 prospect for the Rockies

With the Rockies signing veteran infielder Thairo Estrada in the offseason to fill a void at second base, Amador won't be rushed back to Denver in 2025.

Last season, the 21-year-old Amador got 35 at-bats over a 10-game span with the Rockies, but slashed just .171/.194/.200, showing there was still some work to be done to refine his game.

This year, time in Triple-A could help boost Amador's stock at the plate when he does get back with the Rockies. He showed on Sunday that he has the skill set to succeed, going 1-for-2 with a walk and accounting for the biggest offensive moment of the game, smacking a two-run homer in the sixth inning to break a scoreless tie.

William Bergolla, unranked prospect for the White Sox

Offense was hard to come by for Chicago on Sunday, but Bergolla made the most of his opportunities at the plate and on the bases.

Starting at second base, the 20-year-old Bergolla went 1-for-2 with a walk, stolen base and run scored, Chicago's only score of the day.

He made his impact in the sixth, dropping a single into left and hustling from there to get himself into scoring position.

Chicago had just three hits and two walks against Colorado pitchers, so Bergolla's efforts far and away led the White Sox.

Gabriel Hughes, No. 16 prospect for the Rockies

Hughes was the starter for the Rockies and set the tone for the other Colorado pitchers, throwing two scoreless and hitless innings with a pair of strikeouts.

The performance on Sunday was similar to what the 23-year-old right-hander has done throughout the spring as he tossed 6.1 scoreless innings with three strikeouts before being reassigned by Colorado to minor league camp on March 9.

Hughes was the 10th pick in the 2022 draft, but his rise through the minor leagues has been slowed by Tommy John surgery. Now back and healthy, Hughes showed that he could be among the key young pitchers who are on the cusp of making an impact on Colorado's future.
