Draft guru explains why Shedeur Sanders is 'perfect fit' for this NFC team

Although the New York Giants could still sign Russell Wilson or Aaron Rodgers, a new mock draft has them taking another high-profile quarterback.

In his latest mock draft, ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. has the Giants taking Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders (6-foot-1, 212 pounds) with pick No. 3. On a Tuesday episode of ESPN's "Get Up," the draft guru explained why it would be the right pick for New York.

"The pressure, the big stage, he's dealt with all of that," Kiper said. "For Shedeur Sanders, I think he's a perfect fit. You got a coach and a GM getting their guy."

According to Darryl Slater of NJ.com, the Giants are waiting on Rodgers, whom the Pittsburgh Steelers and Minnesota Vikings are also pursuing. Wilson could be a potential fallback plan if they can't land the four-time MVP.

Even if the Giants sign one of those veteran passers, they probably wouldn't be the answer. Rodgers is 41, while Wilson is 36.

Sanders would be familiar with the attention that comes with playing for a team with a large media market, like the Giants. His father, Deion Sanders, is the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes and a Pro Football Hall of Famer.

More importantly, Shedeur Sanders' skill set may intrigue Giants head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen. In two seasons with the Buffaloes, he completed 71.8% of his passes for 7,364 yards and 64 touchdown passes.

The Giants, however, seem more interested in Miami QB Cam Ward (6-foot-2, 219 pounds). On March 4, ESPN's Jordan Raanan reported that New York considers him the best quarterback in the draft and believes it could trade up to No. 1 to land him.

Moreover, the Titans have the No. 1 pick and could use it on Ward. If Tennessee does, pivoting to Shedeur Sanders may be a good idea for New York.

In a division with Jayden Daniels of the Washington Commanders and Jalen Hurts of the Philadelphia Eagles, the Giants need a viable starting QB to compete.
