In his latest mock draft posted on Tuesday morning, NFL Media analyst Daniel Jeremiah predicted that the Pittsburgh Steelers will grab Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart with the 21st overall pick of this year's draft.
During a Wednesday appearance on "The Pat McAfee Show," Jeremiah compared Dart to the reigning Super Bowl Most Valuable Player who guided his Philadelphia Eagles to a blowout win over the Kansas City Chiefs in February.
"He reminds me of [Jalen Hurts], man," Jeremiah said about Dart, as shared by Alex Kozora of Steelers Depot. "That's my comparison, which is kind of off the wall. It's kind of weird, but with Jalen Hurts, he got better every single year in college. He was athletic. He was smart. He was tough."
Dart's rise up draft boards that began during Senior Bowl week has been one of the most-discussed topics regarding this year's class along with the supposed slide of Colorado signal-caller Shedeur Sanders. While Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated made it known in his mailbag published on Wednesday that he still doesn't "think [Dart is] guaranteed to go in the top 50," ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. is among those who believe Dart won't get into the double digits of the draft order.
Some have even suggested Dart could go off the board at No. 3 if Miami's Cam Ward and Sanders go one-two on the night of April 24.
Those who may scoff at the Dart-Hurts comparison should remember that the Eagles allegedly at least considered making a trade with the Houston Texans for Deshaun Watson back in early 2022. That shows just how far Hurts has come, as he now has a pair of conference championships and a Super Bowl title on his resume.
Even if the Steelers land Aaron Rodgers at some point, Pittsburgh will need a quarterback for the future on its roster. The Steelers may have to think about moving up in the draft order to get Dart if they are convinced he'll improve over his first few NFL seasons as did Hurts.
