Mauricio Pochettino has once again expressed his desire to return to Tottenham Hotspur, fueling speculation over a potential reunion with the club in the near future.

The Argentine tactician, currently managing the United States men’s national team, recently spoke about his deep-rooted connection with Spurs and his ongoing respect for club chairman Daniel Levy.

Despite his sacking from Tottenham in 2019, Pochettino insists he holds no grudges and views his exit purely as a professional decision rather than a personal one.

Mauricio Pochettino says he would like to return to Tottenham one day

In an exclusive interview with Sky Sports News’ Gail Davis, Pochettino reaffirmed his attachment to Tottenham, stating that he has always envisioned returning to the club at some stage. Even after six years away, his passion for Spurs remains strong.

He emphasised that his respect for Levy remains unchanged, highlighting the appreciation they continue to share for one another.

He said:

“You’re talking about two different sides, professional and personal and I’ve seen always the appreciation in between both.

“He is always there and he’s going to be there. It’s another thing to take professional decisions. It’s true after nearly six years with all that we lived together, it was tough because of all the ups and downs and emotional things that we lived.

“I’ve seen always it’s difficult in football that that doesn’t affect all this type of situation in your relationship. For us, we split very well. One thing was professional, another personal and now, like the day after we left Tottenham, we keep always a very, very good relationship.

“Look, when I left the club I always remember one interview I said I would like one day to come back to Tottenham and that is of course, I am in the USA, I am not going to no, I’m not going to talk about that, but what I said then still after six years or five years, I still feel in my heart that, yes, I would like one day to come back. We see the timing, like Daniel said.”

Pochettino’s first tenure at Tottenham, from 2014 to 2019, was one of the most significant periods in the club’s recent history.

Under his leadership, Spurs became genuine title contenders, secured their highest-ever Premier League points tally, and reached the UEFA Champions League final in 2019.

Despite an eventual dip in domestic form that led to his dismissal, Pochettino remains one of the most beloved managers in Tottenham’s history.

Since his departure, the club has struggled to find long-term managerial stability, with multiple changes in the dugout failing to replicate his impact.

Could a Pochettino comeback be on the works

Current Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou is facing mounting pressure following a challenging second season. With Spurs enduring an inconsistent Premier League campaign, their hopes for silverware now rest on the Europa League.

While Levy has reportedly told Postecoglou what he needs to do to avoid sacking, it appears that the club chairman has began working on hiring a replacement.

Levy was spotted with the Argentine at Limes in Barnet over coffee, a meeting that has sparked speculations over a potential return.

While Pochettino is currently focused on preparing the US team for the 2026 World Cup, his recent remarks and the meeting with Levy indicates that a return could be in the works.
