Kyle Larson was well on his way to winning Saturday's NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Homestead-Miami Speedway with eight laps to go.
Larson was the dominant driver of the day and held a 16.6-second lead over Sam Mayer — until the caution flag flew for a spinning Taylor Gray.
That set up a two-lap dash to the finish, with Larson and Austin Hill on the front row.
Unfortunately for Larson, his chance to win failed when the green flag flew for the race's final restart. Mayer hit the rear of Larson's car on the restart, which upset Larson's Chevrolet and shot Hill and Justin Allgaier to the top two.

As Hill and Allgaier put on a spectacular show and battled for the win, Larson had to fight for third with Sheldon Creed and Mayer. Allgaier bested Hill for the win, while Larson crossed the line in fourth — ensuring a weekend sweep following his victory in Friday's Truck Series race won't be in the cards.
"Obviously a bummer to have another Homestead race play out that way," Larson told CW Sports. "I can't go when my rear tires are off the ground. I know it looks like I choked another one away, but I did everything I could. The No. 41 just lagged back and slammed the (expletive) out of me."
Mayer — who finished runner-up to Allgaier — had a different view of his contact with Larson.

"I just mistimed it, unfortunately," Mayer told CW Sports regarding the final restart. "Got to his [Larson's] bumper a little too early, he went really late in the [restart] box, just playing games. That's what you have to do to at this level to get the advantage. He just waited really long and I wasn't ready for him to wait that long."
As Allgaier celebrated his second consecutive Xfinity Series victory, Larson was forced to wonder what could've been on a day where he led 132 laps and won Stage 2. He'll go for his first victory of the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series season in Sunday's Straight Talk Wireless 400 (3 p.m. ET, FS1, MRN, SiriusXM NASCAR Radio).
