The best word to describe Joey Logano's start to the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series season? Mediocre.
Through the first six races, Logano has zero top-10 finishes — the worst mark in that category ever for a defending Cup Series champion — and an average finish of 18.8. On Sunday at Homestead-Miami Speedway, a 14th-place finish was all Logano could muster.
Logano started 12th and finished Stage 1 in 10th, but pit road trouble struck on Lap 84 and relegated him to the back of the pack.

Logano ended up finishing 29th in Stage 2, presenting a long road to a good finish. While he did find his way back to 14th, it was another disappointing race in what has been a mediocre start to the season.
Logano has led laps in four races this year but has been unable to capitalize on his speed and get results. When he doesn't have speed, he's unable to find a way to outperform his car.
It could be argued that stage points — of which Logano has 51 — have been Logano's savior this year. Despite not having a top-10 finish this season, Logano sits 11th in the Cup Series standings, 30 points above the playoff cut line.
Logano and the No. 22 team need a good result in the worst way. Having speed is nice, but at some point, the results must follow suit.
