NC State women set multiple program records in dominant win over Michigan State

The second-seeded NC State Wolfpack put on a clinic in Monday's Round of 32 game against the seven-seeded Michigan State Spartans.

The Wolfpack knocked down 15 threes and defeated the Spartans, 83-49, to punch their ticket to the Sweet 16 in the Spokane 1 regional.

Per ESPN.com writer Michael Voepel, the 15 made threes and 34-point margin of victory set NCAA Tournament program records for NC State. The Wolfpack shot 50% from three-point range and hit a season-high 12 triples by the third quarter, which shows how much the long-range game was clicking on Monday.

NC State got out to a 27-9 lead after the opening quarter and never looked back. This three from senior Madison Hayes put NC State up 42-21 late in the first half.

Senior Aziaha James kept the momentum rolling with this long-range shot to extend the NC State lead to 50-25 just over a minute into the third quarter.

James had a team-high 26 points and six threes in the game. Senior Saniya Rivers (1-of-3 3PT) and Hayes (5-of-7 3PT) each put up 17 points.

NC State's offensive outburst was especially impressive against a Michigan State team that entered Monday 26th in the country in defensive rating and 11th in turnovers forced per game (21.97), per NCAA.com. It was apparent from the beginning that the Spartans had no answers for the Wolfpack in Monday's second-round game.

NC State has now won 20 consecutive home games in the NCAA Tournament and will make its sixth Sweet 16 appearance in the last seven NCAA Tournaments.

The Wolfpack will face the winner of the LSU-Florida State matchup on Friday in Spokane, Washington. If NC State's hot-shooting (50%) and rebounding advantage (44-29) carry over to the Sweet 16, the Wolfpack will have a strong chance to return to the Final Four after falling to the eventual champion South Carolina last year.
