Interesting stat highlights Paige Bueckers' brilliance

On Monday night, Paige Bueckers and the Connecticut Huskies secured their place in the Sweet 16 with a commanding 91-57 victory over South Dakota State. Bueckers, playing in her final NCAA Tournament before heading to the WNBA Draft, delivered a sensational performance, erupting for 34 points on 14-of-21 shooting, including three makes from beyond the arc.

The 23-year-old guard was a perfect 3-for-3 from the free-throw line and stuffed the stat sheet with three rebounds, four assists and four steals in just 29 minutes of action.

As the final minutes ticked away, the UConn crowd rose to their feet, giving Bueckers a well-deserved standing ovation in what was her last-ever home game at the Gampel Pavilion. It was a fitting sendoff for a player who has left an indelible mark on the program.

Beyond her individual brilliance, a remarkable statistic surfaced during the game that solidified her status as one of the most efficient scorers in all of basketball.

Bueckers is the only player across all of college basketball, the WNBA and the NBA to shoot at least 50 percent from the field, 40 percent from three and 90 percent from the free-throw line while also leading the country in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.8). It’s a level of efficiency that speaks not just to her shooting touch, but to her intelligence and poise as a floor general.

Her excellence extends beyond this single performance. Over 33 games this season, Bueckers has averaged 18.7 points, 4.4 rebounds, 4.8 assists and two steals per contest. Across her 118-game collegiate career, she has put up 19.5 points per game while maintaining a blistering 41.9 percent clip from beyond the arc on 4.5 attempts per outing.

As UConn marches deeper into the tournament, Bueckers remains the focal point of its title hopes. Regardless of how far the Huskies advance, her legacy is already secure—not just as one of the greatest to wear a UConn jersey, but as one of the most efficient and dominant scorers in modern college basketball.
