Titans respond to Will Levis trade speculation

The Tennessee Titans on Sunday addressed speculation that quarterback Will Levis might be on the trade block.

Titans president Chad Brinker shot down the idea of a Levis trade on Sunday, arguing that the former second-round pick remains in the team’s plans. Brinker said the team has had no trade talks about Levis, though he was not exactly effusive about the quarterback.

“That’s a false report,” Brinker said, via Jim Wyatt of the team’s official website. “We have not contacted anybody, and nobody has contacted us, about Will Levis. I don’t think anything has changed from the time somebody asked me about this a month ago.

“The plan with Will Levis is he has a chance to compete for a starting job next year. And that’s like every player that’s on our roster.”

Levis rumors have been mostly speculative. Much of it stems from the increasing likelihood that the Titans target Cam Ward with the No. 1 overall pick, which would likely make Levis expendable. He may be valuable insurance for the Titans, though they could also lean on Brandon Allen for that.

The Titans gave Levis the chance to make the quarterback job his own last season, but he did not succeed. He threw for 2,091 yards and 13 touchdowns but was intercepted 12 times in 12 games. That issue consistently frustrated his coach, and the Titans seem to have accepted he will not be the long-term solution at the position.
