LSU continues transfer portal overhaul with 2024-25 All-CAA addition

LSU continued to remake its backcourt with Wednesday's significant transfer portal addition.

Per On3, the Tigers added 2024-25 All-CAA guard Rashad King, who recently finished his third season at Northeastern.

King's 2024-25 season ended on a high note, averaging 23.1 points per game over his last nine games. For the season, he averaged 18.5 points, 6.1 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game.

The rising senior guard is a plus defender, averaging 1.4 steals per game in 2024-25 and posting 1.8 defensive win shares.

King, at 6'6", gives the LSU backcourt valuable size next to 6-foot-1 former UNLV point guard Dedan Thomas Jr., who transferred to LSU on Monday.

The Tigers also remain in play for twin guards Tajuan "TJ" Simpkins and Takai "TK" Simpkins, who played at Elon in 2024-25.

TK led the Phoenix in scoring, averaging 16.4 points per game, while TJ averaged 14.6 points per game.

Earlier this offseason, LSU head coach Matt McMahon bolstered the frontcourt by adding former 6-foot-10 Mississippi State center Michael Nwoko. This season as a sophomore, Nwoko started 32 games and averaged 6.1 points per game overall.

Those acquisitions are in addition to the Tigers' No. 19 overall incoming high-school recruiting class, headlined by three four-star players.

LSU is entering its fourth season under McMahon in 2025-26 and is seeking its first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2022. McMahon previously coached at Murray State, leading the Racers to three NCAA Tournament appearances from 2018-22.

Things haven't gone as smoothly in Baton Rouge, with McMahon posting a 45-53 record with two losing seasons since replacing Will Wade in March 2022.

This season, LSU was one of two SEC programs (South Carolina) to fail to make the NCAA Tournament.

The Tigers are pushing to steer their rudderless men's basketball program in the right direction, and their early transfer portal additions are an excellent start.
