The New York Giants have the No. 3 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and they have some very interesting decisions ahead of them as a result.
The Giants, coming off a 3-14 season, obviously need all the help they can get, and there is certainly a thought that they could select a quarterback at No. 3 depending on how the first two picks fall.
Here's one scenario.
If the Tennessee Titans take their quarterback in Miami's Cam Ward — thought of as the top quarterback in the draft — and the Cleveland Browns get a dominant pass-rusher in Penn State's Abdul Carter to pair alongside Myles Garrett, the Giants could stick at No. 3 and take Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders, the son of NFL legend Deion Sanders.
The first two parts of that scenario are what ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter is predicting at the moment. He thinks Ward will go No. 1 overall and then the Browns — who also need a quarterback — would prefer the pass-rushing combination of Garrett and Carter.
That would leave the Giants with the option to take Sanders, but interestingly enough, Schefter is reporting that New York may actually not want to go quarterback at that spot.
“If the Browns in fact do go with Abdul Carter, that would leave the Giants sitting there, staring at the same quarterback decision that the Browns had, that they bypassed — to take Shedeur Sanders. And there’s more and more of a feeling like the Giants might not go quarterback," Schefter said on ESPN's "Get Up" on Thursday (h/t On3). "If they don’t go quarterback, that would leave the other star player from this draft, Travis Hunter, to give New York a little star power that it lost when Saquon Barkley signed with the Philadelphia Eagles.”
There's absolutely a big story here surrounding Sanders falling in the draft, but perhaps just as big is the idea of Travis Hunter going to New York.
He's the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner and was a two-way superstar for Colorado over the past few seasons. He can absolutely be a star wide receiver or cornerback in the NFL and he, frankly, wants to be able to do both.
Hunter is the type of player who, as Schefter mentioned, would bring a ton of star power to the Giants and he's absolutely the type of player that New York could build around.
Whether or not he continues to go both ways or ultimately sticks on offense or defense is not yet the story. The story here is that he'd instantly be one of the most talented all-around players in the NFL, and that's a sure bet.
Taking a quarterback high is always risky, but taking a player like Hunter at No. 3 overall? That could be a franchise-changing move for the Giants, and you can't deny the impact of his potential star power in an area like New York.
