Ja Morant is back to making headlines for all the wrong reasons, and one Hall of Famer says he would love to talk some sense into the Memphis Grizzlies point guard.
TMZ caught up with Spencer Haywood at Los Angeles International Airport on Thursday and asked the former Seattle SuperSonics forward to share some of his thoughts on the latest drama surrounding Morant. Haywood, who said he knows Morant personally, did not hold back.
Haywood, a four-time NBA All-Star, blasted Morant for being "arrogant."
"He's arrogant. He don't care, and the people that are around him are not advising him right," Haywood said. "He's ruining his career. He's ruining his family's life. And most importantly his team, he's letting them all down. I'm just disappointed in Ja. I know him.
"If you've been suspended for doing it and you've been suspended for having a gun, and then you're pointing a gun at Golden State and at Draymond and the rest of them? There's no excuse, bro."
Haywood added that he was considering flying to Memphis to speak with Morant in person.
The NBA announced on Friday that Morant has been fined $75,000 for making a gun-related gesture on more than one occasion earlier in the week. Morant and Golden State Warriors guard Buddy Hield were issued warnings after they made gun gestures toward one another on Tuesday night. Despite the warning, Morant then made the same motion with his arms after he hit a three-pointer during the Grizzlies' game against the Miami Heat on Thursday night.
Morant has been suspended multiple times in his career after videos surfaced that showed him flashing a gun. After all of that, he still thought it was a good idea to do a gun-related celebration after an alley-oop dunk last season and then multiple times this week.
Given his latest cryptic social media post, it is fair to wonder if Morant even learned his lesson following the latest embarrassing series of events.
