Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was treated like a local superstar before the Toronto Blue Jays' road game against the New York Mets on Friday, but the All-Star slugger did not read too much into it.
Or so he says.
The Mets hosted the Blue Jays on Friday for the home opener at Citi Field in Queens, N.Y. Visiting players typically hear a lot of boos in that situation during pregame introductions, but the reaction was overwhelmingly positive when Guerrero's name was announced.

The cheers for Guerrero had very little (if anything) to do with Blue Jays fans making the trip to New York for the game. Mets fans were showing love for Guerrero, as they are hopeful their team will sign him this winter.
After the Mets won the game 5-0, Guerrero was asked about receiving a warm welcome in an opponent's ballpark. He said he has grown accustomed to it.
"To be honest with you, that's normal for me," Guerrero said through a translator. "I've never been booed in any other stadium. Everybody always has been nice to me everywhere I go."

Guerrero is set to become a free agent after the season. The Mets are considered one of the favorites to sign him if he does not agree to a new deal with Toronto.
Mets fans want Guerrero to remember how he was treated when he played in their ballpark. The same is probably true for fans in other stadiums around the country as well, which is why Vlad Jr. has not heard many boos.
