Raiders visiting with top RB, intriguing QB before 2025 NFL Draft

The Las Vegas Raiders could use a running back and another quarterback. Apparently, they'll try to fill both holes in the 2025 NFL Draft, scheduled for April 24-26 in Green Bay.

Per NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, the Raiders are set to meet with Boise State RB Ashton Jeanty (5-foot-9, 211 pounds) and Texas QB Quinn Ewers (6-foot-2, 214 pounds) on Tuesday. Vegas holds the No. 6 pick in the first round and pick No. 37 in the second round.

Visiting with Jeanty and Ewers likely shows new Raiders head coach Pete Carroll is sticking to what worked for him when he was with the Seattle Seahawks from 2010-23.

Seattle won its only Super Bowl under Carroll during the 2013 season. The Seahawks roster featured RB Marshawn Lynch and QB Russell Wilson, a third-round pick in 2012. Perhaps Ewers and Jeanty would occupy similar roles in Vegas.

Jeanty finished second in Heisman Trophy voting in 2024 after rushing for the second-most yards (2,601 in 14 games) in a season in FBS history. He could bolster Vegas' ground game, which finished last in the league in rushing yards (79.8) in 2024.

QB isn't as big a need for the Raiders. This offseason, they acquired QB Geno Smith in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks, signing him to a two-year, $75M extension.

Ewers could still be a successor for Smith, who turns 35 on Oct. 10. In three seasons at Texas, the 22-year-old threw 68 touchdown passes, the third most in Longhorn history.

Texas HC Steve Sarkisian was on Carroll's staff at USC, so he has a potential connection to Ewers.

Last season, the Raiders went 4-13 and missed the playoffs for a third straight year. To reboot Vegas, Carroll must replicate his success in Seattle. Taking prospects like Jeanty and Ewers may help him do that.
