Texas' Rori Harmon has major announcement on basketball future

Rori Harmon was a big part of what the Texas women's basketball team was able to accomplish this season.

A guard from Houston, Texas, Harmon started in 39 games for the Longhorns while averaging 9.1 points, 5.9 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 2.2 steals per game. In the NCAA Tournament, she averaged 8.4 points, 5.6 assists and 3.6 steals per game and helped the Lady Longhorns make a run to the Final Four.

She played in just 12 games in 2023-24 because of a torn ACL so she does have one year of eligibility remaining thanks to a medical redshirt. She announced on Instagram on Wednesday that she is planning on using that redshirt to come back for next season.

“After tearing my ACL in December of 2023, I was sidelined for much of my junior year, only getting to play in 12 games. But through it all, the support from my teammates, coaches and staff has been incredible. This university has done so much for me, not only as an athlete but as a student," she said in her post (h/t On3). "I was blessed to graduate in three years and am currently pursuing a Masters degree. To be blessed and honored to attend this university, why wouldn’t I want to run it back?

“To Longhorn Nation, I’m excited to say I’ll be using my redshirt year and coming back to play in front of you amazing fans and share another year with my teammates. Let’s finish what we started. Hook ‘Em!”

The interesting thing for Texas is that Harmon was having the best season of her career before she was injured in 2023-24. She was averaging 14.1 points, 7.8 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game in that 12-game stretch.

Those numbers stepped back a bit in 2024-25, but if that's the player who returns next season, the Longhorns will be major benefactors of her decision.
