The Chicago White Sox are playing the 2025 season with an eye to the future. That future is set to begin now.
According to insider Thomas Nestico, the White Sox are set to promote infielder Chase Meidroth to the majors. As Meidroth is not on the White Sox's 40-man roster, a corresponding move will be necessary.
Originally a fourth-round selection by the Red Sox, Meidroth rocketed up the organizational prospect rankings. He was acquired as part of the return when pitcher Garrett Crochet was sent to Boston and will be the first of that quartet of prospects to make his debut.
The White Sox's eighth-best prospect, per MLB.com, Meidroth brings an intriguing skillset to Chicago. He is considered to be a plus hitter with a knack for making contact in the strike zone. When Meidroth does swing the bat, he sprays line drives to all fields. Meidroth will also take a walk, making him an on-base machine. He led the International League with a .437 on-base percentage in 2024, posting an 18.8% walk rate while striking out in just 12.7% of his plate appearances.
Meidroth was off to a solid start with the Triple-A Charlotte Knights. He posted a .267/.450/.600 batting line in his 40 plate appearances, hitting three homers while drawing eight walks. That production, coupled with an impressive .293/.437/.401 batting line 558 plate appearances in 2024, have led to his promotion.
The White Sox have lost eight consecutive games and are 2-10 on the season, the worst record in the majors. Third baseman Miguel Vargas leads qualified White Sox hitters with a .265 on-base percentage. Meidroth can be a sparkplug atop the lineup, providing desperately needed on-base skills.
With six top-100 prospects, the future is bright for the White Sox.
