The New Orleans Saints met with a quarterback draft prospect on Friday, the same day news about Derek Carr’s injury went public.

A report on Friday said that Carr has a shoulder injury that could require surgery and cause him to miss the season. The Saints could consider drafting at quarterback with the No. 9 pick (or a later pick), or they could look into some veteran QB options. Whether or not the timing is a coincidence, we do know that the Saints are looking into draft prospects.

New Orleans Times-Picayune columnist Jeff Duncan reported on Friday that the Saints met with quarterback Tyler Shough that day.

Shough is familiar to many college football fanbases. He began his college career in 2018 and spent his first three years with Oregon. Then he transferred to Texas Tech for three seasons. Shough transferred a second time and spent last season with Louisville. He passed for 3,195 yards, 23 touchdowns and six interceptions while helping the Cardinals go 9-4.

Shough took a redshirt year in 2018, then received a medical redshirt year, and gained an extra year of eligibility due to the shortened 2020 season, which helps explain how he was in college for so long.

In addition to meeting with Shough, the Saints are favored to draft an intriguing QB.
