Is series win over Angels a sign of things to come for Astros?

The Houston Astros have been a legitimate championship contender for the better part of the last decade. However, up until their most recent series, the Astros were limping along throughout the first two weeks of the 2025 season.

Houston opened its weekend series with the red-hot Angels sitting at 5-7 and at the bottom of the American League West. But after taking two from Los Angeles and claiming only its second series win of the young season, it's possible the Astros are posed to go on a run and climb up the standings.

Houston's bats also finally came alive against the Angels, and it all started with its best offensive performance of the season on Friday. Houston unloaded on the Angels to the tune of 14-3.

Isaac Paredes, one of Houston's new comers this season, went 3-for-4 with three runs scored, and a solo shot. Yainer Diaz sent five runners home — he had only one RBI on the year before his offensive explosion.

The, now, 7-8 Astros then won the series with a 7-3 victory on Sunday.

Paredes connected on his second homer of the series, a three-run bomb to the lead the way in the final game of the series.

The Sunday win served as a response to falling 4-1 on Saturday. As a positive that shows Houston can produce as a team, Astros mainstay and former American League MVP Jose Altuve had only two hits and one RBI in all three games with Los Angeles combined.

Houston will now look to build on its recent success offensively when it hits the road. With no break in sight, although it likely doesn't want one right now for the risk of cooling off, the Astros will visit St. Louis for a three-game slate with the Cardinals.

Their series with the Cardinals (7-8) will go from Monday to Wednesday before Houston returns to Texas for another weekend series at home with the MLB-leading Padres (13-3).
