Domantas Sabonis joins elite company with historic achievement

The 28-year-old finished the regular season with 60 double-doubles, sealing the milestone with a 20-point, 12-rebound performance in a 109–98 win over the Phoenix Suns on Sunday. He edged out Nikola Jokic (59), Karl-Anthony Towns and Ivica Zubac (58 each) to secure the league lead.

Sabonis recorded 77 double-doubles in the 2023–24 season—the highest single-season total in over four decades—becoming just the seventh player in NBA history to hit that mark. Not since Moses Malone in 1979 had a player logged that many in a single year.

Last season, the Kings star made headlines by setting a new post-merger NBA record with 54 consecutive double-doubles, surpassing Kevin Love’s previous high of 53. That stretch showcased not only his scoring and rebounding prowess but also his ability to elevate teammates through elite playmaking.

He also joined an exclusive group by reaching 50 career triple-doubles, becoming just the 12th player in NBA history to do so. With 68 triple-doubles to his name, Sabonis now ranks 10th all-time.

As Sacramento heads into the play-in tournament, Sabonis’ historic campaign could prove to be the foundation for a deeper playoff push.
