While some previously speculated that the New York Jets could select either Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders or Ole Miss signal-caller Jaxson Dart with the seventh pick of the 2025 NFL Draft, even though the club signed Justin Fields in free agency, such chatter quieted down before the second Monday of April arrived.
In his latest update regarding the situation, Jets insider Rich Cimini of ESPN indicated that grabbing Sanders or Dart at selection No. 7 is no longer on the table for the organization.
"The top candidates for the Jets' pick at No. 7 are tackles Will Campbell (LSU) and Armand Membou (Missouri), and tight end Tyler Warren (Penn State)," Cimini explained. "This is based on conversations with league sources."
Cimini added that "it would be a bold statement" for the Jets to take any available quarterback at overall pick No. 42.
"Chances are it will happen on Day 3," Cimini said about when the Jets could target a signal-caller during the upcoming player-selection process.
Per ESPN draft guru Mel Kiper Jr. and others, Miami quarterback Cam Ward, Colorado wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter and Penn State pass-rusher Abdul Carter are expected to be the first three picks of the draft. Many believe the New England Patriots will take Campbell at choice No. 4, and some think the Las Vegas Raiders will select Membou over Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty at No. 6.
Such a development playing out may not be bad news for the Jets. Back on April 8, team reporter Connor Hughes of SNY predicted Gang Green would take Warren over Campbell, Membou and Sanders.
"With a dual-threat quarterback now in Justin Fields, and to have a guy like Tyler Warren in there as well, it would really, I think, give defensive coordinators a lot to worry about," Kiper recently told Cimini about the Jets possibly acquiring Warren.
As of Monday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook had the Indianapolis Colts (overall pick No. 14) as the betting favorites at +160 odds to draft Warren. That outlet had the Jets second among the favorites at +280 odds.
Colts general manager Chris Ballard may find himself sweating things out when the Jets are called to spend their first-round pick on April 24, depending on who is on and off the board at that time.
