How does latest Micah Parsons news affect contract negotiations with the Cowboys?

Despite no contract extension, Dallas Cowboys edge-rusher Micah Parsons attended the start of the team's voluntary offseason workout program on Monday.

Parsons, set to play on the fifth-year option of his rookie contract in 2025, was seen entering Dallas' facility in a clip posted to the team's X account (h/t NFL Media's Ian Rapoport).

In a story published on March 18, Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reported the Cowboys wanted Parsons to be more involved in the team's offseason program. Over the past two offseasons, he skipped the voluntary portions and used his training regimen instead.

Parsons attending the program may send the Cowboys a message: He's willing to fulfill some of their requests, so they should reward him with a massive extension.

Since being drafted No. 12 overall by the Cowboys in 2021, he has made four Pro Bowls and logged 52.5 sacks. Spotrac estimates his market value is a four-year deal worth $36.3M annually. Although it's a high asking price, retaining an elite player would be worthwhile for Dallas.

In December, Parsons told Patrik Walker of the team website he wants a new deal before the start of training camp in late July. Both parties have made progress since then, but there's still a roadblock.

At the annual league meeting on April 1, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones confirmed he spoke with Parsons regarding contract negotiations without his agent, David Mulugheta. In a post on his X account, the edge-rusher said he wouldn't sign a new deal without his agent's approval.

The Cowboys should get Parsons' agent involved in contract talks soon. They don't want questions regarding the pass-rusher's future in Dallas to linger over the team throughout the offseason.
