Why workout with QB Shedeur Sanders may hint at Giants' draft plans

Could Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders still be in play for the New York Giants in the 2025 NFL Draft, scheduled April 24-26 in Green Bay?

On Monday, ESPN's Adam Schefter tweeted the Giants are holding a private workout with the 6-foot-2, 212-pounder on Thursday in Boulder, Colorado.

During a Tuesday episode of ESPN's "Get Up," Peter Schrager indicated the workout could hint at New York's draft plans.

"I can tell you that this private workout is not just for show. [The Giants] wanna do the full due diligence on Shedeur Sanders," Schrager said. "Is he possibly the third overall pick where they're sitting at? Maybe. Does this also mean they could trade back into the first round if they take his teammate, Travis Hunter, or Abdul Carter with the third overall pick? I would say that's more likely."

Would the Giants need to move back into the top 10 if they want Sanders but don't take him at No. 3? The New Orleans Saints, who have pick No. 9, are considered a potential destination for Sanders in the wake of starting QB Derek Carr's shoulder injury, which could be season-ending.

New York may be meeting with Sanders again to determine whether it should consider trading back into the top 10.

In his final season at Colorado, the 23-year-old tossed 37 touchdown passes in 13 games. Still, he may lack upside. NFL.com gives him a grade of 6.3, which projects that he'll become a plus starter but not a Pro Bowl talent.

Whatever happens with Sanders, don't expect the Giants to exit the draft without another QB. Per Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer, they're meeting with Louisville QB Tyler Shough (6-foot-5, 219 pounds) and Alabama QB Jalen Milroe (6-foot-2, 217 pounds) later this week.

If the Giants take one of these QBs, they'll likely spend a season behind Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, whom New York signed in free agency.
