Justin Thomas made a birdie putt from 21 feet out on the first playoff hole to win the RBC Heritage on Sunday at Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head Island, S.C., winning a tournament for the first time in nearly three years.
Thomas and Andrew Novak, who was seeking his first victory on the PGA Tour, were at 17-under 267 through 72 holes. Novak was in the last pairing for the third time this season but couldn't find a way to win.
Thomas, a two-time major champion, hadn't won since capturing the 2022 PGA Championship.
Thomas shot 3-under 68, ending his bogey-free round with three consecutive pars. Novak was off the mark on a would-be winning eight-foot birdie putt on the last hole of regulation and also had 68 for the round.
Thomas led after the first and second rounds. He went ahead on the 15th hole Sunday with a 24 1/2-foot birdie putt, but Novak countered with a birdie from about 17 feet away on the 16th.
Daniel Berger (65 on Sunday), Brian Harman (69), Maverick McNealy (70) and Canada's Mackenzie Hughes (67) tied for third place at 14 under. England's Tommy Fleetwood (70) was seventh at 13 under.
Defending champion Scottie Scheffler had climbed the leaderboard with three birdies in a five-hole stretch until a double-bogey 7 on the 15th hole and a bogey on No. 17 doomed his round. He shot 70, tying for eighth place with Russell Henley (70) and third-round leader Si Woo Kim of South Korea (74) at 12 under.
Kim was 2-over through 12 holes and his troubles continued with a double-bogey 5 on No. 14.
Bud Cauley's 64 marked the best score of the final round. That put him at 7-under and tied for 32nd place.

Tommy Fleetwood did nothing at the FedEx St. Jude Championship to dispel his reputation as a Sunday choker, but he proved once again he's a classy professional even in defeat. Other players on the PGA Tour (*cough cough* Rory McIlroy) could learn a thing or two from his admirable Ryder Cup teammate. Immediately after going 1-over in his final three holes to blow another back-nine lead at TPC Southwind, Fleetwood didn't shy away from the criticisms. Instead, he politely agreed to an on-camera interview with NBC's Damon Hack while his emotions were still running high. "Did a lot of good things today, really," Fleetwood said. "Obviously, right at the end again. I’m getting close. I think that’s the good side of it. I think I’m getting really close. Again, on that back nine, managed to get myself ahead. Played some really good golf, putted really well. Obviously, Justin [Rose] and J.J. [Spaun] have done great there, and I just didn’t quite do enough. You get to those last three holes. It’s the Par 5 16th and the bogey on 17. I don’t know, I’m obviously disappointed. Again, when you reflect, look at the positives. I was right in there with a chance. It’s hard, right? It's hard to win. There are so many good players. I was next to somebody who was playing some really great golf there. Yeah, just didn’t get it done." After pouring his heart out on national television, Fleetwood made his way over to the fans and signed autographs with a big smile on his face. He understands that this could be the best experience of these kids' lives, and he wants to make it special for them, even if he has just endured one of the most disappointing moments of his career. For all the fans and media pundits who poked fun at Fleetwood for squandering another Sunday lead, there were just as many commending him for facing the music afterward. Fleetwood's conduct after the loss was a stark contrast to McIlroy's recent behavior with the media. After losing to Bryson DeChambeau at the 2024 U.S. Open, McIlroy breezed past reporters and peeled out of the parking lot as fast as he could. At the 2025 PGA Championship, he refused to speak to the media after all four of his tournament rounds. He even doubled down on these decisions at the 2025 U.S. Open. "I feel like I've earned the right to do whatever I want to do," McIlroy told reporters at Oakmont Country Club in June. Losing with dignity is a skill not every professional golfer has. Even though Fleetwood is still searching for his first win on the PGA Tour, he hasn't lost his character.
Oregon wide receiver Jurrion Dickey has struggled to live up to expectations in his first two seasons with the Ducks, and he is now in a terrible position heading into 2025 as well. Dickey has been suspended indefinitely by Oregon, head coach Dan Lanning announced on Tuesday. Lanning also suggested that Dickey may not play for the Ducks again. "We have two team rules; that’s respectful, be on time,” Lanning said, via James Crepea of The Oregonian. “There’s some pieces of that where I felt like he needed a break from us and we needed a break from that so we could focus on what’s in front of us right now. "Wishing him nothing but the best, as far as success and want to see him get back to where he can be a contributor somewhere; that might be here that might be somewhere else.” Dickey was a five-star recruit and rated as one of the top wide receivers in the country when he came out of Menlo-Atherton High School in Atherton, Calif., in 2023. He suffered an injury in his senior year in high school and redshirted as a freshman at Oregon. Dickey has two catches for 14 years during his time with the Ducks. Oregon went 13-1 in Lanning's third season with the program last season. The Ducks lost to eventual national champion Ohio State in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals.
The quarterback battle for Notre Dame is set to come to an end shortly, and it might be a surprise considering how the national media predicted the race to finish. Per Eric Hansen of On3, head coach Marcus Freeman is set to name the starting quarterback by Sunday when he meets the media. The Irish are still letting the quarterback battle play out until then, but it appears sophomore quarterback Kenny Minchey is the favorite to start at Hard Rock Stadium against the Miami Hurricanes on Aug. 31. Minchey has shown improvement in numerous areas throughout camp, and he has the edge on freshman quarterback CJ Carr in what is believed to be the final week of the competition. "As of Wednesday, the line between 1 and 2 remained blurred," Hansen wrote. "The tiebreaker may eventually go to Minchey, per the source, because of his ability to be a true running threat and offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock’s preference to have that element to put pressure on opposing defenses. "But he also has a preference for QBs who can transcend adversity, and the training camp phase was choreographed to test precisely that. While both contenders responded persistently in a manner that defies their inexperience, Minchey has been exceptional in that regard." Throughout the summer, ESPN writers such as Bill Connelly and Mark Schlabach have written as though it were a forgone conclusion that Carr would win the battle in training camp. However, Minchey appears to be a natural fit for how offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock likes to scheme against a defense. He helped dual-threat Jayden Daniels earn a Heisman Trophy in 2023 and took Notre Dame to a national championship appearance with Riley Leonard. The battle isn't over, but the edge appears to be running Minchey's way.
