The Boston Celtics cruised to a fairly easy 103-86 win over the Orlando Magic on Sunday, but the victory may have come at a small price.
Jayson Tatum appeared to hurt his wrist while driving to the basket and trying to extend Boston's lead with a dunk midway through the fourth quarter of Game 1 of the first-round playoff series between the Celtics and Magic. Tatum was fouled hard by Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who was assessed a Flagrant 1 after the play was reviewed.
Tatum landed awkwardly and appeared to be in significant pain. He grabbed at his right wrist and was later seen holding it and flexing it while sitting on the bench.

The good news is Tatum eventually came back into the game. He even hit a deep three-pointer over Paolo Banchero roughly two minutes later to extend the Celtics' lead to 94-76 and put the game totally out of reach.
Celtics head coach Joe Mazzulla said after the game that Tatum's wrist is fine. It does not sound like the six-time All-Star is in danger of missing any time going forward.
The reason the injury scare was particularly concerning is that Tatum has dealt with wrist issues in the past. He saw specialists at one point in 2023 to determine whether he would need surgery, but he ultimately did not. That injury was to Tatum's left wrist, whereas Sunday's was to the right.
If the newest injury were serious, Tatum would not have returned to Sunday's game, especially since it was a blowout. But with Boston's other big star battling an ailment, the storyline is another one to watch.
