Donovan Mitchell, Cavaliers flex muscles in Game 1 win over Heat

Living up to expectations is often easier said than done in the playoffs, but the Cleveland Cavaliers did just that in Game 1 of their first-round series with the Miami Heat. Cleveland took down Miami 121-100 on Sunday, giving the Cavaliers a 1-0 series lead.

Donovan Mitchell led the way as Cleveland won three out of the four quarters, with a 25-25 third as the only close period of the game. Mitchell scored 30 points in 33 minutes while also contributing five rebounds and four assists.

But even though Mitchell stepped up, in typical Cavaliers' fashion, it was far from a one-man show as well.

Ty Jerome had 28 points with five boards of his own in only 26 minutes and Darius Garland scored 27 with five helpers in 31 minutes of action.

Beyond just the leading scorers, Jarrett Allen posted a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds and Evan Mobley got close to joining him, recording nine points to go along with his seven rebounds.

Lost in surpassing 120 points as a team offensively, the Cavaliers were on top of their game defensively as well. After scoring 30 in a win over the Atlanta Hawks on Friday to advance out of the play-in tournament, Tyler Herro dropped down to just 21 points on Sunday. His 21 points were shy of his regular-season points per game average of 23.9.

Bam Adebayo was one rebound shy of a 24-point double-double, but Miami's leading scorer finishing behind three Cleveland players told the story of the game.

The Cavaliers will now try to continue flexing their muscles as they look to defend home court again on Wednesday in Game 2.
