Paris Saint-Germain edged past Le Havre, 2-1, on Saturday, extending its unbeaten run in Ligue 1 but doing little to ease concerns over its recent form.
The narrow victory came just days after PSG nearly threw away a 5-1 aggregate lead against Aston Villa in the Champions League quarterfinals. Despite progressing, its second-leg collapse — conceding three goals and looking defensively disjointed — raised serious questions about its readiness for the next hurdle: a semifinal showdown with an in-form Arsenal side.
Manager Luis Enrique made nine changes to his starting XI against Le Havre, resting key players following their European exploits. With the Ligue 1 title already secured, rotation was expected, but it came at the expense of rhythm and cohesion.
PSG struck early, opening the scoring in the eighth minute through Desire Doue, whose deflected effort found the net after a sharp assist from Bradley Barcola. Goncalo Ramos added a second shortly after the break, finishing off a clever ball from Senny Mayulu to highlight the squad’s impressive depth.

Yet, PSG still looked vulnerable. Le Havre pulled one back just after the hour mark via Issa Soumare’s header, and while the hosts controlled large spells of the game, they failed to assert themselves with the authority expected of a Champions League contender. The performance lacked the intensity and discipline that will be required against Arsenal.
By contrast, Arsenal arrives in the last four full of confidence. Mikel Arteta’s side comfortably dispatched Real Madrid with home and away wins in the quarterfinals, and followed that with a dominant 4-0 away victory in the Premier League against relegation-threatened Ipswich Town on Sunday. The Gunners appear sharp, balanced and tactically disciplined — qualities PSG must quickly rediscover.

Two Ligue 1 fixtures remain for PSG before the first leg against Arsenal: a trip to Nantes and a home game against Nice. Though the league title is wrapped up, these matches offer crucial opportunities to fine-tune tactics, regain rhythm and solidify the starting XI.
Momentum isn’t measured solely in results. While PSG continues to win, its performances have lacked conviction. If it is to match Arsenal’s energy and precision, it’ll need more than points in its final domestic outings, it'll also need purpose. The road to the Champions League final will demand it.
