The Denver Broncos reportedly don't want to stand pat during the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, scheduled for Thursday in Green Bay.
In a story published Monday, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the Broncos are one of the few teams considering trading up in Round 1.
"There has been, however, a lack of teams willing to trade up — at least so far," wrote Schefter. "Denver is one of those: The Broncos have made inquiries about moving up in Round 1, according to sources. But there aren't many others. This always could change when players start falling and teams are on the clock."
How high Denver would be willing to trade up remains unclear. The Broncos moving up from pick No. 20 into the top five to take Boise State RB Ashton Jeanty (5-foot-9, 211 pounds) seems unlikely. Tankathon's latest mock draft has the Las Vegas Raiders taking Jeanty with pick No. 6.
2024 Heisman finalist Jeanty would improve Denver's 16th-ranked rushing attack (112.2 YPG), but this hypothetical move may require too much draft capital for Denver.
A trade with the Dallas Cowboys, who own pick No. 12, seems more feasible. On April 15, Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones told KRLD-FM in Dallas they may consider moving down in the first round.
If Denver acquired pick No. 12, it could take Texas wide receiver Matthew Golden (5-foot-11, 191 pounds) or North Carolina RB Omarion Hampton (6-foot, 221 pounds).
Golden had 58 receptions for 987 yards and nine touchdown catches in 16 games in 2024. Hampton, meanwhile, rushed for 1,660 yards and 15 TDs on 281 carries in 12 games.
Broncos quarterback Bo Nix surpassed expectations during his rookie season, throwing the league's sixth-most TD passes (29 in 17 games). If Denver can pull off a draft-day trade without giving away too much, that could prove to be a boon for the 25-year-old QB.
