Cam Ward, if indeed selected by the Tennessee Titans with the No. 1 overall pick, will have a notable safety net to throw to next season.

Veteran wide receiver Tyler Lockett announced over social media on Wednesday that he is signing with the Titans in free agency. The news comes after Lockett was released by the Seattle Seahawks last month.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that Lockett is getting a one-year, $4M contract from Tennessee (that could be worth up to $6M with incentives).

Lockett, 32, spent his first 10 career seasons with the Seahawks before getting released. Among his most notable accolades in Seattle were three All-Pro selections (including a First Team nod in 2015), a Pro Bowl berth and four consecutive seasons with 1,000 yards receiving from 2019-22.

Also a special teams stud who led the NFL in kickoff return yards during the 2017 season, Lockett is known for his speed, route-running ability, and reliable hands. With fellow former All-Pro receiver Calvin Ridley, a vertical threat at 6-foot-1, locked in as Tennessee’s WR1, the team now has an excellent 1-2 punch to work with.

The Titans hold the top overall pick in the NFL Draft later this week and are widely expected to take the former Miami star quarterback Ward with that selection. Lockett’s presence in Tennessee should help ease Ward’s transition, especially given Lockett’s talent as well as his profile as a vibes guy.
