The Indiana Pacers took a commanding 2-0 lead in their first round playoff matchup against the Milwaukee Bucks picking up a 123-115 win on Tuesday. However, the victory was somewhat overshadowed by off-court controversy.
The Athletic released its annual anonymous player poll, in which players around the league voted Tyrese Haliburton as the most overrated player in the league. Haliburton received 14.4 percent of the vote from 90 participants.
He joined a list of other All-Stars like Trae Young and Jimmy Butler near the top of the list.
Following the team's win, Pacers head coach Rick Carlisle had some strong words for the results of the poll.
“I heard about this,” Carlisle said. “The other guys on the list were Jimmy Butler and Giannis. I want to see the guys' faces that voted for those guys. I want to see the faces of those guys. This is a bull---- poll. Not everybody even answered the poll. Guys were able to answer if they wanted to. They weren't asked with a microphone. The whole thing is bull----."
Fortunately for Carlisle and the rest of the Pacers, the poll didn't seem to affect Haliburton's performance. He torched the Bucks in Game 2 with 21 points, 12 assists and five rebounds.
While some around the league may label him as overrated, its hard to deny what Haliburton has been able to accomplish since being traded to the Pacers.
Haliburton was superb this season, leading the Pacers to a 50-32 record while averaging 18.6 points, 9.2 assists and 3.5 rebounds while shooting 47.3 percent from the field and 38.8 percent from three.
Last season, he experienced a true breakout season, earning second All-Star nod of his career while leading the league in assists. He took the Pacers to the Eastern Conference Finals, where they were they fell in five games to eventual NBA Champion Boston Celtics.
He also represented Team USA last summer, helping win another gold medal.
Haliburton has firmly made his mark as one of the best point guards in the NBA.
He'll look to lift his team to a 3-0 series lead when the matchup shifts to Milwaukee for the pivotal Game 3 on Friday.
