Jason Kidd, the NBA Hall of Famer and current head coach of the Dallas Mavericks, has added another chapter to his sporting legacy by joining the ownership group of Premier League club Everton.
The move highlights the growing wave of American investment in English soccer, reflecting an increasingly global outlook for both sports and business.
Kidd joins Everton’s ownership under The Friedkin Group, which assumed control of the club through its subsidiary, Roundhouse Capital Holdings. The Friedkin Group also owns Serie A side AS Roma and is now helping guide Everton into a new era.
We are delighted to announce a further addition to the Club’s ownership group.

Jason Kidd, the Head Coach of the NBA’s @dallasmavs, has joined Roundhouse Capital Holdings, part of The Friedkin Group.
Central to that transformation is the construction of a new 52,000-seat stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock, which is set to open ahead of the 2025–26 Premier League season.
The project represents a landmark moment in the club’s long history, viewed as a catalyst for Everton’s ambitions to re-establish itself among the league’s elite.
"I'm honoured to be joining Everton's ownership at such an important moment — with a new stadium on the horizon and a bright future ahead, it's a great moment to come on board," Kidd said upon the announcement, via BBC Sport.
The 52-year-old's arrival comes amid a broader influx of American influence across English soccer. Over the past decade, U.S. ownership has become increasingly prominent, with Liverpool owned by Fenway Sports Group and Manchester United under the Glazer family.
Further down the pyramid, NFL icon Tom Brady holds a stake in League One leaders Birmingham City, while Hollywood duo Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have brought global attention to Wrexham.
Kidd brings with him decades of elite sporting experience, both as a player and coach, which Everton hopes can translate into fresh perspective at the executive level. His reputation for leadership, player development and strategic thinking is expected to add value beyond the financial investment.
For Kidd, this marks a bold entry into global soccer. For Everton, it’s a sign of renewed ambition and international appeal as it prepares for life in a new stadium and look to reclaim its place among English soccer's top tier.
