Packers add more offensive weapons on Day 2 of NFL Draft

The Green Bay Packers made their second- and third-round picks of the 2025 NFL Draft on Friday night following a historic first-round selection on Thursday.

Coming into the draft, the Packers' biggest needs were at wide receiver, defensive tackle, defensive end, cornerback and offensive line. Both selections on Friday addressed some of those positions.

As announced by former Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson and members of the Boys and Girls Club of Green Bay, the Packers selected N.C. State offensive tackle Anthony Belton with the No. 54 overall pick in the second round.

The selection of Belton comes a year after Green Bay drafted three offensive linemen, including Jordan Morgan, in the first round. The Packers have solid depth on their offensive line already, but adding Belton gives them additional depth and someone who can potentially make an impact given his size.

Belton may not be the quickest with his feet, as his 5.26 40-yard dash time would indicate, but his athleticism and strength are unmatched.

Nicknamed "Escalade," Belton's 6-foot-6 frame and strength can definitely make up for the lack of speed. Belton did not allow more than three sacks during each of his last three seasons at N.C. State, per Pro Football Focus, and was named a third-team All-ACC pick in 2023.

That type of consistency could prove valuable, especially if depth becomes an issue during the season. The only concern with Belton is hand placement so he can pick up the defender quicker and better protect the quarterback.

With pick No. 87 in the third round, as announced by Packers Hall of Famers Jerry Kramer and Dave Robinson, Green Bay selected TCU's Savion Williams, its second wide receiver in the first three rounds.

For a team that had not drafted a receiver in the first round since 2002, drafting a second one in its first three picks of the draft was somewhat surprising, but still addressed a position the team needed prior to the draft.

While Williams does not bring the same quickness as first-round pick Matthew Golden, his 4.48 time in the 40-yard dash was solid. He was a three-year starter at TCU in his five seasons there.

During his last three seasons, he had 1,576 receiving yards and 14 TDs while adding 322 rushing yards and six TDs. Those efforts led to him being named honorable mention All-Big 12 Conference his last two seasons.

According to Yahoo Sports, one of the Packers' biggest needs was a speedy, field-stretching vertical threat at wide receiver, something Williams and Golden should provide

He will likely have to compete for playing time after going in the third round, but his playmaking ability is exactly what Green Bay was looking for and could lead to a decent role in the offense given some time.
