Max Fried, Paul Goldschmidt lead Yankees to shutout win over Rays

The potential 2025 American League Cy Young winner wears No. 54 for the New York Yankees.

Max Fried, who is in his first season in a New York Yankees uniform, took the mound on Friday and did exactly what he's done all season — dominate the game.

He allowed just one hit, two walks and struck out six batters across seven shutout innings in New York's 3-0 win over the Tampa Bay Rays.

As noted by MLB's official X account, the Yankees got all three of their runs with one swing of the bat.

First baseman Paul Goldschmidt broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fifth inning with a three-run home run to right field.

The homer for Goldschmidt was his third of the season, and his season batting average increased to .361, good for second in the major leagues only behind his teammate, Aaron Judge.

Devin Williams and Luke Weaver combined to pitch the final two innings for New York to preserve the shutout.

Clarke Schmidt is set to get the ball for the Yankees on Saturday, and he will have quite the shoes to fill to pitch as well as his teammates did on Friday.
