And we’re off! The WNBA preseason has started with the Las Vegas Aces taking on the Dallas Wings at Notre Dame.
The championship caliber Aces took advantage of the mismatch against the young, rookie-filled Dallas Wings in the first quarter going up 18 to 10 with 3:10 left in the first quarter.
The Wings put pressure on the Aces to close out the first quarter, leading 25-23.
To start the second quarter, the Aces came out firing. Jackie Young went in for the three-point play to put the Aces up by one with 9:00 minutes left in the quarter. Young stayed the course in drawing free-throw opportunities to give the Aces some momentum and put them up 31-26.
Rookie Aaliyah Nye came down at the 6:47 mark to convert from three-point land pushing the Aces to 34-28.
Chelsea Gray fired off a mid-range jumper giving the Aces a 39-28 lead. Young came down for another jumper, Aces led 41-28 with 4:53 left before the half.
Wings rookie Paige Bueckers turned up the heat with a foul on Jewell Loyd as she drove to the basket.
The Aces did an excellent job with ball movement to convert from the floor.
At the half, the Aces led 54-36.
Things heated up between the two teams. With the score 94-75. JJ Quinerly went for back-to-back shots to shift the momentum to the Wings.
Deja Kelly and Aaliyah Nye were the one-two punch to clinch the Aces first preseason win, 112-78.
The Aces meet the Phoenix Mercury on Tuesday, May 6 at 7PT.
