Going into 2025, nobody was exactly sure what to expect from AM Racing's NASCAR Xfinity Series program.
After an abysmal 2024 season that saw the team employ seven drivers over the course of a 33-race season, including intended full-time driver Hailie Deegan, who only lasted 17 races, 2025 was a year for the organization to prove that it could once more reach the level of consistency it produced with driver Brett Moffitt in 2023, when Moffitt scored nine top-10 finishes and a solid 15th-place points finish.
Through the first 12 races of 2025, AM Racing and driver Harrison Burton have done just that. A sixth-place finish in Saturday's Andy's Frozen Custard 300 at Texas marks the sixth top-10 finish of the season for Burton, who is 10th in the Xfinity Series standings.
If you compare Burton's first 12 races to Deegan's 17-race stint in 2024, the results are night and day. Burton's average finish of 14.2 far outshines Deegan's average finish of 26.8. Burton has finished top 10 in half of the races so far this season, while Deegan couldn't snag a single top-10 result in her 17 races with AM Racing.
Burton, of course, is a Cup Series winner, making the comparison between him and Deegan somewhat arbitrary. But even when other drivers stepped into AM's car in 2024, it struggled. In fact, the only driver to earn a top-10 finish for the team in 2024 was three-time Cup Series champion Joey Logano, who did so twice.
It's clear that from an equipment and personnel perspective, AM Racing has taken a major step forward in 2025. But Burton's contributions shouldn't be forgotten. While his Cup Series tenure didn't go as planned, his experience at the top level of NASCAR racing is invaluable to a team such as AM that is still trying to grow. For Burton, his solid performance serves as both a confidence boost and a resume builder as he attempts to break back into the Cup Series.
AM Racing has taken a major leap from 2024 to 2025, and it wouldn't be a surprise to see Burton sneak into the Xfinity Series playoffs this fall.
