St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado is one of the best to ever play the position, winning 10 consecutive Gold Gloves between the 2013 and 2022 seasons. He showed why on Sunday night against the New York Mets.
That was when he made an incredible catch on a pop-foul off the bat of New York Mets outfielder Juan Soto.
Not only did Arenado have to cover a ton of ground from his original positioning, but he also made a running, over-the-shoulder basket catch and still managed to hold onto the ball as he toppled over the wall and fell into the front row of seats.
Juan Soto has had some luck tonight. He had a three-run homer taken away in the fourth inning, and now Nolan Arenado does this.

That is an incredible play by Arenado. Simply covering that much ground to get to the ball is impressive enough, without all of the other extra variables added into it.
It is also some more bad luck for Soto, who has yet to play up to expectations in his first season with the Mets.
Earlier in the game, he hit what appeared to be a three-run home run, only to have it be caught at the wall.
Between that and the Arenado catch, he was on the wrong end of some Gold Glove caliber play.
