Joey Logano wins wild Wurth 400 at Texas in NASCAR overtime

In typical Joey Logano fashion, Logano was not a contender for much of Sunday's Wurth 400 at Texas Motor Speedway. But when the pay window opened, a three-time Cup Series champion who has built a legendary career out of being opportunistic, pounced.

After getting around Michael McDowell, whose left-side tires were significantly more worn than the rest of the field's, Logano set sail and looked to have a relatively easy win in the bag. That was until McDowell crashed on Lap 265, forcing the race into overtime.

After a chaotic race that featured 12 caution flags and an abundance of big crashes, the two-lap overtime period was relatively tame, with Logano driving away from the pack as Ross Chastain scooted around Ryan Blaney to take third.

"This sport changes so quickly," Logano told Fox Sports' Jamie Little. "You ride these roller coasters."

The win is the first of 2025 and the 32nd career win for Logano, who was still seeking his first top-five finish of the season going into Sunday's race.

Chastain, Blaney, Kyle Larson and Erik Jones completed the top five, with Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Austin Dillon, John Hunter Nemechek, Christopher Bell and Daniel Suarez completing the top 10.

Other notable finishers include Daytona 500 winner William Byron in 13th, Chase Elliott in 16th, Chris Buescher in 18th, Kyle Busch in 20th and Tyler Reddick in 21st.

Polesitter Carson Hocevar finished 24th after being involved in a late crash, while his Spire Motorsports teammate in McDowell, finished 26th.

The 12th race of the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series season will see the Cup Series return to the Kansas Speedway for the AdventHealth 400. The race will go green shortly after 3 p.m. ET on May 11, with coverage on FS1, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. Kyle Larson is the defending winner of the AdventHealth 400, while Ross Chastain won the last time the Cup Series visited Kansas in September 2024.
