Knicks shut down Celtics late in comeback Game 1 OT win

On a night when Mikal Bridges played phenomenal defense and the Boston Celtics missed a record 45 three-pointers, it was appropriate that the final play of game featured Bridges clamping Jaylen Brown behind the arc as time expired.

The New York Knicks trailed by 20 points halfway through the third quarter, but held the Celtics to 30 points for the final 23 minutes as they took Monday's Game 1, 108-105.

Bridges was everywhere in the overtime period, blocking a shot, hitting a three-pointer and getting two steals on Brown, including the game-clinching rip.

On his first swipe, Bridges made an athletic save falling out of bounds to set up an OG Anunoby dunk.

Anunoby was as good from three-point range as the Celtics were bad, sinking a game-high six triples on 11 attempts. For the Celtics, Jayson Tatum (4-for-15) and Derrick White (5-for-16) missed 11 threes each, while Brown shot 1-for-10 from deep. It didn't help that Kristaps Porzingis went scoreless in 13 minutes before leaving with an illness, and Sam Hauser sprained his ankle at the end of the third quarter.

NBA Clutch Player of the Year Jalen Brunson again came through in crunch time, scoring 11 of his 29 points in the fourth quarter. The Celtics grabbed six offensive rebounds in the quarter, but kept going back to — and missing — three-pointers, finishing the quarter 2-for-15 from deep.

Boston likely won't shoot 25% again in this series, while the Knicks probably won't make 45.9% of their threes. But as good as the defending champions are on both sides of the ball, when Boston isn't making threes — and Anunoby and Bridges are playing great defense — the Celtics are very beatable.
