Knicks use unlikely scoring leader to take 2-0 series lead over Celtics

As the New York Knicks continue to shock the world, they benefited from an unlikely hero stepping up in their Game 2 win. After Jalen Brunson put on his cape and helped New York steal Game 1, Josh Hart led the way on Wednesday night.

The Knicks now have a commanding 2-0 series lead over the defending-champion Boston Celtics, thanks to one overtime win and then following that up with a close 91-90 victory.

And it was Hart, not Brunson, or even Karl-Anthony Towns, who finished as the game's leading scorer. Hart, who averaged 13.6 points per game during the regular season, scored 23 points in 43 minutes. He also added six rebounds, three assists and two impactful blocks.

Towns did post his second double-double of the series, and this time did so with 21 points and 17 boards, but Brunson only recorded 17 points of his own after scoring 29 in the series opener.

Much like in Game 1, the Knicks needed a big comeback effort to even make the game close in the final minutes. New York outscored Boston 25-16 in the fourth quarter on Monday and then 30-17 in Game 2.

Defensively, the Knicks have been causing Boston's stars more problems than they're used to dealing with. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown had respectable showings in Game 1, granted neither was at their best. They both scored 23 points each.

But on Wednesday, New York held the Celtics' championship duo to a combined 33 points. Tatum had a double-double, but did so with only 13 points.

And while many still expect Boston to mount a comeback, the Knicks have the advantage as the series shifts to New York.

So with two road wins under their belt, including one without Brunson or Towns as the top scorer, the Knicks are on the verge of doing the unthinkable — eliminating the Celtics and advancing to the franchise's first Eastern Conference Finals since 2000
