Former Arkansas PG Boogie Fland spurns NBA, but set to be top target in transfer portal

Boogie Fland wanted to test the waters of the NBA to see what his potential pro future looked like.

Despite being viewed as a first-round pick, albeit a likely late first-round pick, it's being reported that Fland has decided to take his name out of the NBA Draft. He won't participate in the rest of the NBA Draft Combine and instead will focus on finding his new college basketball home.

Fland was a freshman at Arkansas last season and had a tremendous year for John Calipari and the Razorbacks. Checking in at 6-foot-2, 175 pounds and hailing from the Bronx, Fland averaged 13.5 points, 3.2 rebounds and 5.1 assists per contest.

He started in 18 of the 21 games he played in as a true freshman but also dealt with injuries. He played in just 17.6 minutes per game in the NCAA Tournament, with the bulk of his playing time coming against Kansas and St. John's. He scored six points with three assists and three steals against the Jayhawks and had another six points with four rebounds, two assists and a steal against the Johnnies. He played in only nine minutes in Arkansas' loss to Texas Tech and didn't score a point.

Still, Fland is expected to be one of the top players in the transfer portal now that he's heading back to college, and if he has another good season, he very well could end up being a lottery pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.

Fland was a five-star recruit in the class of 2024, ranked as the No. 2 combo guard in the country. He was originally a Kentucky commit, but he followed Calipari over to Arkansas. Alabama and Indiana were also in the running for his initial commitment, so it will be interesting to see if they pop back up this time around.
