Dak Prescott reacts to Cowboys acquiring George Pickens from Steelers

Numerous reports have detailed how the Pittsburgh Steelers being "fed up" with George Pickens resulted in the Steelers trading the mercurial wide receiver to the Dallas Cowboys last week.

During a Wednesday appearance on Dallas sports radio station The Ticket, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott reacted to having Pickens as a weapon for at least the 2025 season.

"I'm excited," Prescott said, as shared by Tommy Yarrish of the Cowboys' website. "You turn on the tape and you see a guy that can catch the football. You put the football anywhere in his vicinity, very strong hands, more than a 50/50 catcher, he thinks it's his ball when it's in the air. I'm excited for him."

While it's been well-documented that Pickens routinely gave Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin headaches over the past two seasons, the 24-year-old remains a promising talent who potentially could flourish in the right environment.

On Tuesday, Ted Nguyen and Saad Yousuf of The Athletic mentioned that "Prescott will be by far the best quarterback Pickens has played with." Nguyen and Yousuf also noted that Pickens "is theoretically the perfect complement to CeeDee Lamb," Dallas' No. 1 target.

Per ESPN stats, Lamb ended the 2024 regular season tied for eighth in the NFL with 1,194 receiving yards and tied for seventh with 101 receptions. Such numbers look even better, on paper, when one remembers that Prescott went down with what became a campaign-ending hamstring injury in Week 9.

"I know that we need some help in that position," Prescott added about the Cowboys' offseason search for a No. 2 receiver. "I know CeeDee needs some help, and I think when you have a guy like that, I heard George say it, it's hard to double-team two guys."

Pickens is in the final season of his rookie contract, so one would think he'll be on his best behavior from the remainder of springtime workouts through the upcoming campaign as he attempts to earn a lucrative multiyear deal. As long as Prescott stays healthy, the combination of Pickens and Lamb should create difficult matchups for opposing coaching staffs amid Dallas' pursuit of a postseason berth.
