Watch: Journalism wins Preakness Stakes with incredible finish

After a close second-place finish at the Kentucky Derby, Journalism bounced back in a big -- and thrilling -- way on Saturday to gets its big win of 2025 by taking the 150th running of the Preakness Stakes. It required a dramatic finish and a last-second overtaking of Gosger right before the line.

Journalism was the favorite in both the Derby and Saturday's Preakness, entering Saturday with 8-5 odds to win.

This is how close it ultimately ended up being.

Gosger looked as if it was going to pull off a massive upset after entering the day at 20-1, tied for the biggest long shot in the field. It almost did, but was just unable to hold off Journalism who had come from as far back as sixth place.

Journalism came in second at the Kentucky Derby two weeks ago, finishing 1 1/2 lengths behind Sovereignty.

Had Journalism not completed that comeback on Saturday it would hade made for a disappointing first two legs of the Triple Crown given the expectations going in.

Sovereignty did not run in the Preakness on Saturday, eliminating the possibility of a Triple Crown this year. Sovereignty is expected to run in the Belmont Stakes, the third leg of the Triple Crown, on June 7.
