Napheesa Collier already making strong case for WNBA MVP

Over the past year, Napheesa Collier has solidified herself as one of the top stars in women's basketball today. Coming off a busy and successful 2024 campaign, she has hit the ground running to start the 2025 season.

Last year was busy for Collier both on and off the court. Along with leading the Minnesota Lynx to the finals, she also launched the Unrivaled league alongside Breanna Stewart.

Collier also fell short of a title in Unrivaled, but she did take home MVP and won the league's inaugural one-on-one tournament. Based on her start this season, she could yield similar results in the WNBA.

After being runner-up for MVP to A'ja Wilson last year, Collier entered this season as one of the favorites to take home the hardware. Through her first three outings, she looks well on her way to being a finalist again in 2025.

Collier kicked off the season in impressive fashion, scoring 34 points in a win over the Dallas Wings. A few nights later, she recorded 23 points and six rebounds against the LA Sparks in another win for Minnesota.

Collier's 57 points through her first two games are the most by a Lynx player since Maya Moore notched 67 points in 2014. Ironically enough, she ended up taking home the MVP that year.

Collier's strong play did not end there, as she put together another strong showing to help the Lynx start the season 3-0. In a nail-biting win over the Dallas Wings, she posted a stat line of 28 points, eight rebounds, two assists and two steals.

As one of the top two-way players in the league, Collier's impact on the Lynx is on display nightly. Along with putting up big scoring numbers, she is capable of being a defensive stopper as well.

With the Lynx having such a strong start to the year, Collier has jumped out as an early frontrunner for MVP. She'll have to watch out for other notable names like Caitlin Clark, but she's certainly positioned herself well to make a run at the award.
